Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care focuses on removing the stress and tension from our nervous system, allowing the body to function at its best. Each adjustment allows our body to improve its efficiency and ability to heal. Chiropractic care retrains and enables better neurological function.

Working with your Chiropractor will involve neurological testing, adjustments to improve function and brain based exercise prescription to optimize your health.

Working with the whole family from infancy to the young at heart. We strive to provide the best care, helping families experience better health and connection.

Our bodies are designed to be healthy!  Our brain controls and coordinates all the healing, regulating and stress adaptation performed by our bodies.  This information gets delivered to our body through our nerves.  Stresses that we encounter in our everyday lives impacts how our brain functions and the information our nerves receive. Chiropractic care removes the stress and tension from our nerves, allowing the body to function at its best.

Absolutely! Prenatal Chiropractic care reduces interference to the mother’s nervous system, which coordinates all of the systems and functions in her body. Chiropractic care helps to create a state of balance in the pelvic muscles, ligaments and bony structures, thereby preparing the pelvis for an easier pregnancy and birth. Women may also experience improved regulation of  menstrual cycles, optimized uterine function, allowing proper nerve supply to your reproductive organs.

Every pregnant mother wants to have a healthy and safe pregnancy. During pregnancy, the body undergoes physiological and hormonal changes that can lead to additional stress on our nervous system.  Physically, the shift in the center of gravity, changing gait and posture, can lead to pelvic misalignment. Chiropractic care ensures your nervous system will function optimally, allowing you to be comfortable and enjoy your pregnancy. In our practice, we seek to provide our clients with practical help, knowledge and skills that will support their desired birth.

There are many advantages you may experience, such as

  • Less stressful pregnancy
  • Detection and correction of fetal malposition
  • Greater production of breast milk
  • Less back pain
  • Reduced need for pain medication and interventions during labour
  • Reduction of preeclampsia
  • Shorter labour times
  • Comfort with breastfeeding
  • Reduced incidence of postpartum depression

Definitely! It’s extremely safe and very sensible for both mother and baby. Our Chiropractors have received additional training and will use specialized techniques to make sure that mom and baby are comfortable and well taken care of.

It’s never too late to get adjusted! In every stage of pregnancy your nervous system will benefit from improved function. Our patients have received adjustments even during their labours.

Of course not! Today’s parents are becoming increasingly aware of the importance of the mother’s health and pelvic biomechanics throughout pregnancy. Giving it due attention will not only result in a more comfortable pregnancy, but will optimize the baby’s developing systems in utero and contribute toward achieving optimal fetal positioning for a safer and easier birth for both mother and baby.

While Chiropractors can’t turn breech babies, what we can do is gently and specifically adjust a mother’s spine and pelvis back into a proper balanced state, establishing normal physiological function. In this balanced state, the result may be that your baby has a better opportunity to move into the correct birthing position. The Webster Technique has been shown to assist in balancing the pelvis. A 2002 study reported a 92% success rate of babies turning into a vertex position after use of the Webster Technique. In addition to being Webster certified, our Chiropractors are trained in the Spinning Babies techniques, providing further support to balance uterine position.

Knowing that your nervous system controls every function in your body, it is essential that children be checked by a Chiropractor. We recommend that children be checked from birth. All births, whether long or short, natural, assisted or cesarean can put a lot of pressure on your baby’s spinal cord and nervous system. When these tiny infants begin to grow, learn to crawl, and eventually walk, freshly developed motor patterns often lead to numerous slips/falls, bumps, and bruises. Chiropractic adjustments are crucial to helping keep kids in alignment through these fast changing years. Our Chiropractors are trained in pediatric exams and adjusting techniques to ensure that our young patients continue to perform at a high level, growing up healthy and strong.

Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive and natural approach to improving health and addressing current symptoms. Naturopathic Doctors empathize preventative health strategies and the promotion of optimal health through patient-centered education and individualized treatment.

The primary goal of naturopathic medicine is to address the cause of illness, rather than simply treat or suppress symptoms. Naturopathic doctors (NDs) view their patients from a holistic perspective and therefore consider the emotional, spiritual, mental and physical aspects of a person when diagnosing and developing an individualized care plan.

Naturopathic medicine is a comprehensive and natural approach to improving health and treating illness. It is a distinct profession of primary health care providers who emphasize preventative medicine and the promotion of optimal health through patient-centred education and individualized treatment. Dr Victoria is an advocate of complementary evidenced-based care that can be combined safely with mainstream medical treatment.

The primary goal of naturopathic medicine is to address the cause of illness, rather than simply treat or suppress symptoms. Naturopathic doctors (ND’s) view their patients from a holistic perspective, and therefore consider the emotional, spiritual, mental and physical aspects of a person when diagnosing and developing a treatment plan.

Naturopathic doctors are trained to use a variety of natural therapeutics including:

  • Clinical Nutrition
  • Botanical/Herbal Medicine
  • Acupuncture and Traditional Asian Medicine
  • Physical Therapies
  • Homeopathy
  • Lifestyle Counselling and Stress Management

Naturopathic doctors (ND’s) obtain comprehensive and rigorous training in an educational structure similar to that of conventional medical doctors. In total, ND’s are required to complete a minimum of 7 years post-secondary schooling, including 3 years of pre-med undergraduate education, plus 4 years of full-time study at an approved college of naturopathic medicine.

The four-year naturopathic program incorporates basic medical science courses, clinical sciences and naturopathic therapies, as well as more than 1500 hours of supervised clinical experience. Following the completion of their program, ND’s must successfully complete the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) in order to qualify for licensing in Ontario. NPLEX is the standard examination used by those provinces and states across North America that license and regulate the practice of naturopathy.

Naturopathic doctors are the only regulated health professionals in the field of natural medicine in Ontario. ND’s are regulated in Ontario under the Regulated Health Professions Act and are licensed by College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). The mandate of CONO is to ensure that naturopathic doctors are properly qualified to practice naturopathic medicine and that they follow the appropriate standards of practice.

Naturopathic doctors are also regulated in Canada in the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan and various states across the USA.

Most first visits with a naturopathic doctor average one hour or more in length. The goal is to obtain a holistic picture of the patient and the factors that impact overall health. A detailed history is taken from the patient  and a complaint-oriented physical exam may be performed if necessary. The naturopathic doctor may then suggest further specialized testing and with the patient’s input, a personalized treatment plan is created to facilitate achieving their health goals.

The number of sessions will vary from person to person depending upon their individual health concerns, as well as the type of therapies being used in their treatment plan. For example, a patient receiving acupuncture treatments often comes in more regularly than a patient whose treatment is mainly based on dietary or lifestyle modifications. Regardless of the therapy being used, routine follow-ups are encouraged and are usually done on a monthly basis.

Any/all costs for recommended supplements, vitamins, herbal products, etc. are in addition to fees for naturopathic services.

At present, the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) does not cover naturopathic services. Fortunately however, most employment insurance providers have naturopathic medicine coverage in their extended health care packages. Insured patients may wish to contact their employer or individual health insurance agent to see if they are covered for naturopathic services.

According to several studies and medical research, acupuncture is thought to benefit reproductive health and success rates of fertility treatments (IVF, IUI) by reducing stress, increasing blood flow to the reproductive organs and balancing the endocrine system.

Acupuncture for fertility can be started at any point in the menstrual cycle or at any point before a medically administered fertility treatment to enable the body to be as healthy as possible for conception. The more time before ovulation or retrieval, the better, because the benefits of acupuncture are cumulative. So, three treatments to increase blood flow to the uterus and ovaries will be more effective than one treatment, however, acupuncture can always benefit the process, no matter when you start.

Yes! Gut health has been linked to ADD ADHD, Autism, depression, brain fog, aggression, dyslexia etc.

Yes! Sometimes symptoms are delayed and are presented as: hyperactivity, mood swings, learning disabilities headaches, etc.

Yes! Think of the gut as the control centre for many systems of the body. A good portion of our immune system resides in the gut and our diet will either improve or worsen the situation.

Choosing foods that lower inflammation and support your hormones will help to balance your hormones out. By balancing your hormones, your PMS will be reduced!

The top issues that I see in practice related to fertility are stress, using toxic products on your body and in your home, and consuming foods that don’t support your fertility goals. The good news is that all of these things can be fixed! A holistic nutritionist will help guide you on this journey and give you the tools to safely and naturally prepare your body for conception.

Nope! Step one is to figure out what’s working for you and what’s not, then we’ll figure out a diet that works for you, which means it will include your favourite foods, meals that can be made in advance, and meals your entire family will enjoy! We’ll discuss a strategy that works for you in terms of making healthier choices, there’s no deprivation over here!

Homeopathic Medicine

Homeopathic medicine, which is recognized by Health Canada and overseen by the College of Homeopaths of Ontario, is a wonderful and timely science for treating a variety of children’s problems.  It is safe, natural and has no side effects.  Behavioural problems and digestive issues can be treated gently and thoroughly as the science works for mental/emotional as well as physical problems.

Children sometimes develop shyness and reluctance to attend school with accompanying headaches and stomach aches.  Homeopathy treats these problems.  For learning problems such as poor attention, and failure to thrive at school, there are many medicines and the correct one for your child is ascertained at the consultation.

The first consult takes around one hour and includes assessing medical history, and individualizing all symptoms experienced by your child.  Then the Homeopath chooses the best medicines to address these issues and the parent is given instructions regarding how to give the meds, how often etc. There is a follow-up visit in a month to assess progress and make any changes/additions as needed.

Many children today have compromised immune systems. The immune system resides in the intestines and medicines that target this area specifically treat behavioural issues as well, showing the interesting connection between gut dysbiosis and mental/emotional problems. So asthma, allergies, hives, eczema etc are all treated with focus on the gut. When the gut is healed, the health returns to normal and it is a wonderful thing to observe how well children do after taking Homeopathy.
